By law, an Israeli citizen who has changed his/her personal
status (i.e. marriage, divorce, widowhood) must inform the Ministry
of Interior of the change so that the Ministry can update the
Population Registry.
A Citizen who has changed his/her status and is living abroad
must inform the changes to the Consulate.
Notification of a change in status is obligatory regardless
if the Citizen has married/divorced/widowed a foreign national.
Notification of Civil Marriage
In order to inform the Consulate of a civil marriage please
provide the following:
- Original Marriage Certificate and Apostille
stamp
- Marital
Status Form - completed and signed in front of a Consulate
employee or notary public
- Valid identification for both spouses
Note: The woman is not required to change her name.
Notification of Dissolution of Marriage
In order to inform the Consulate of a civil divorce please provide
the following:
- A certified Dissolution of Marriage court document
- Apostille stamp on
the Dissolution of Marriage document
- Marital
Status Form - completed and signed in front of a Consulate
employee or notary public
- Valid identification of both spouses.
Note: A woman is not required to change her name.
Notification of Widowhood
- Original Death Certificate and Apostille
stamp on the document.
- Marital
Status Form - completed and signed in front of a Consulate
employee or notary public
- Last passport that was issued to the deceased.
- Valid identification of the widow.
